This began on Saturday and it has been very annoying. The pop-ups seem to advertise for random things but more often than not deals with some sort of computer virus remover software that I can download for free. I tend to think my problem is related to the people behind said product, but I know very little about computers and thus do not know how to battle this problem. I would greatly appreciate any help/advice that can be given.

Hi, I was on facebook and someone commented on my facebook saying there was a picture of me up somewhere, the link said google something so I clicked it, yes I know foolish, and then it downloaded onto my computer. Now pop ups keep saying Runtime error 21 at 019D49D2…the first three numbers can keep changing though. I did a norton check and an avg check and nothing shows up. Now it says TypeError:avg_DTFox.prefs has no properties everytime I try and open up firefox which does not open regardless. I am not well educated with computers so can someone walk me through the process or tell me what to do to fix this? I cannot even access the internet because firefox wont let me load the internet. PLEASE HELP !!
UPDATE: fixed the firefox problem so i now have access to the internet….but the things still pop up.
Hi, I have a Samsung Q1 and I’ve built a USB stick with BartPE and the installation files for XP Tablet PC edition. Everything goes fine, and when I invoke Winnt32.exe it does its thing, and exits. Thereafter, I reboot the Q1 and it starts text mode XP install – goes through the standard thing – asks me which partition etc, and then proceeds to copy files – what should happen next is that it should start the GUI mode installation part of XP – instead it keeps starting the text mode version and does the same thing as before – asks me which partition and copies the same files again – any ideas how I can get past this?
Thanks a million.
File system (FAT or NTFS) installed on a Windows-based hard drive is a database that saves all critical information related to every file stored on the hard drive. Corruption in file system is one of the most common factors of inaccessibility of data saved in the hard drive. Few reasons for file system corruption are unexpected system shutdown, virus attack, application malfunction, and operating system damage. In most cases of file system damage, a Windows user encounters an error message that halts the boot process of Windows.
To overcome such error messages and to overcome file system damage, the user needs to use an inbuilt repair utility named ‘CHKDSK’. While this utility is helpful in repairing file system, there are a few cases when it fails to repair. In such situations, data can only be accessed by restoring it from an updated backup. But, in case of no backup or deficient backup, the user needs to use a powerful Hard Drive Recovery Software.
Consider a real-time scenario wherein you encounter the below error message while trying to boot your Windows XP system:
“The volume X: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now? The disk in drive X: is not formatted. There was an error accessing drive X:. The disk is not formatted.”
Once the above error message appears, the system becomes unbootable and the hard drive data becomes inaccessible.
Cause:
The root cause for the occurrence of the above error message is corruption in file system.
Resolution:
To resolve the above error message, you need to run CHKDSK command. However, the command might also fail, displaying the below error message:
“The type of the filesystem is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.”
To overcome the above CHKDSK failure error message and to boot your Windows XP system, you need to perform a clean reinstall of Windows XP operating system. This allows you to install new file system on your hard drive and also brings your system in a bootable state. However, re-installation also results in complete inaccessibility of all previously saved files and folders saved on your hard drive. To access those files, you need to opt for an advanced Hard Drive Recovery Software. Such Hard Drive Recovery tools are easily available on the Internet.
Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery assures recovery of all the files and folders post re-installation. Compatible with almost all file systems (NTFS, NTFS5, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and VFAT), the Hard Drive Recovery utility supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000 operating systems.

starting in the morning, our symantec antivirus suddenly keeps popping up and displaying that it acted on the risk “bloodhound.E…” by quarantining it. but the thing kept popping up like 5 seconds after i close the notice window. now, it’s probably quarantined 50 of the same virus. will someone please help me and tell me how to solve this or what’s going on?
I tried deleting the file out of the symantec program data (that’s where it originally came from according to the thing) but it can’t be completed because it was in use by another program. i think it might be because the symantec thing put it in quarantine, but i can’t figure out how to get it out. can anyone help me and am i doing the right thing?
We recently had a power outage and my friend’s windows install went corrupt. particularly the file C:\Windows\System32\Config\system (no extension). also the drive has not letter and is thus unreadable by normal means. Here’s what I”ve tried.
>Direct transfer of the file via system restore. Access is denied.
>Fix MBR
>second windows install. not allowed. I think due to an OEM install
>browse the hard drive on another PC. no letter. unreadable
>BartPE disk, same thing
here’s what i’ve considered:
>Use partition majic to try to recreate the partition without deleting data.
>use an USB external serial ATA hard drive reader. that should force it to have a drive letter.
any other ideas?
to Azrael: well, by bartPE disk I meant Ultimate boot CD with windows XP.pretty much the same as having XP on a disk instead of linux, and it called it a partPE disk because it had bartPE software. the drive is inacessable in that case. I think i’ll try this though. I’ve always wanted to try linux, and maybe i’m just being stupid.
and to further clarify it, I also meant that the disk will run XP completely independent of the hard drive. it ONLY uses the CD drive.
UPDATE 2:I found another good tool called EasyCleaner. It’s another registry cleaner which cleans areas the other ones miss.It also has other little tools with it as well.Download it off CNET(download.com). UPDATE:I found out that Advanced System Care V3 has an internet booster and something called Smart RAM.The internet booster is MUCH better than Internet Cell boost and Smart RAM is much more effective than FreeRam Pro XP. I’m just saying you can probably stop using/uninstall both those programs since these tools from ASCv3 are much more effective and faster. Heres the link to download: www.youshare.com Alright,I’ve compiled a lot of tools that will speed up your computer and other things They were all found off www.download.com (CNET) so they have no viruses or spyware and I’ve used them many times.I’ve included instructions in there as well so make sure to read them.
The monitor is normal at the desktop, but when I access internet pages I get almost like a grid of dots that change color…especially when I type. Sometimes it will go away if I minimize the box and then reopen it. How can I fix this problem?
Everytime I try to do anything in the control panel section this error message comes up: windows can not find ‘c:\windows\system32\rund”32.exe’. I am not typing anything in though, I am just clicking on icons in the control panel option. Also, when I try to change my background for my pc the same error message comes up. I need to change my sound setting to get a mic to work for an online class. Please help. could this be because of a computer virus?
I accidently hit download for a “fake” anti virus application. Its called 2008 anti virus and it has the shield logo on my toolbar. Every now and then a bubble pops up saying that trojan horses and malicious spyware has been detected on my computer and i need to buy the software to get rid of it. I know its just a ploy to get me to buy it but I can’t get rid of it. I used smitfraud several times but it just gets rid of the icon. The “warning” popups keep occuring though. Also everytime I start Windows it opens up this fake application and it starts scanning my computer. How do I get this off my computer….I don’t want it to cause a future problem and its driving me up a wall.
