i have a memorex flash drive. it was 8gb. Then, i tried the hp drive key utility to make the drive bootable, so i could put the BartPE installation of XP on the flash drive. I abandoned the project, and so now, when i go to put some stuff on my flash drive, i only have 3.8gb when i should have 8gb. Anyone got any ideas on how to get it back to 8gb?
i did format it, and it still ended up 3.68gb or something. Then, i put the drive up to my mouth and blew the contacts clean. NOW I’m getting 7.68gb or something. Thats probably why so many people have trouble with their flash drives. DIRTY CONTACTS SUCK OUT LOUD!!!!!

How would I be taking the ISO image of Fix-It Utilities 7 that is bootable upon startup and put it on a cd to make it do the same thing on startup. If that doesn’t make sense I would try to put it like this.

CD is Bootable
USB isn’t
How do i make USB with same files and boot it like a CD.

The files on it I will use to fix my friends computer but it’s a netbook so I can’t use the CD. Making the files usable on the USB would solve it but how would I do this? I tried using MKBT and BBIE to solve it but it wouldn’t work. I also tried Flashboot, PE2USB and BartPE. Most seem to complicated so I’m not sure if I’m doing it wrong or anything.
Copying and Pasting cd files to make a usb bootable doesn’t work. The bootsector is different from the cd files so doing so will result in nothing but a black screen.

I have an IBM ThinkPad. It has an option to boot from Pen Drive in BIOS. So, I have 1GB Pen Drive made by Kingston. I wanted to be able to boot from a Pen Drive(mainly Linux but I need a Windows image as well).

So I created a boot image with BartPE and wrote it to the Pen Drive. Then, I also tried booting with PenDriveLinux image too. But, what happens is, whenever I load the Pen Drive from boot menu, the system proceeds to boot from the Hard disk rather than the pen drive. I tried writing a small program called MemTest to my pen drive and running it too. But, it also fails.

Is this a fault with the pen drive? Should the pen drive also support boot option? Can’t I just take any Pen Drive and write a boot image to it and boot from it?

I need to create a bootable CD (not floppy) for when I get the Blue Screen of Death. I need something (not the Windows Installation CD) that will take me to the equivalent of Safe Mode because after I get the Blue Screen of Death I can’t get anywhere except back to the Blue Screen. Using F8 works fine but none of the options work. I think one exists because I used BartPE which allowed me to get to my files and from there I did a right click on the C: drive and got to Check Disk. From there I was able to fix errors and bad sectors. I need to download something that will allow me to do more in case that doesn’t always work.

I need to boot from a USB on a computer that does not support it, BartPE is not an option. Is there a file that I can download and write to a floppy that will tell the computer to boot from my flash drive?
No CD or DVD drive. BIOS update is the same as my current version.
It is possible, It’s just hard. What I am trying to do is boot from the USB (flash drive) to install Win2kServer. What I need to know is if there is a program that will make a boot disk that tells the computer to boot from USB.

Due to problems with backing up my computer’s files, I’ve made a bootable disk to boot from and then copy files. I’e tried a few different processes I’ve found on the net using BartPE, and none of them have worked. When I put the CD into my other (broken) computer and start it up, it gets stuck right before it would normally say “press any key to boot from CD”. It just sits there. booting from the Windows XP installation CD works, and booting from a memtestx86 bootable CD I made works. Does anyone know what’s wrong? The installation of windows I used was Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (copied from my CD). I thought it might be because I was using an OEM installation, but the process to get around that ( http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t57699.html ) didn’t solve anything. Thanks in advance.

My computer froze so I held down the power button (which shuts it down straight away) and when I tried to turn it on again it just came up with all this writing and a few options like ‘safe mode’ and stuff!? What do I do know? This has happened once before but I called a computer guy to fix it. He used BartPE I think, he left the CD with me so is it possible for me to use that to try fix my computer? Please help me!

I am attempting to install WIn XP Pro SP3 on a Medion E1210 Netbook from a bootable flash drive (which I created with PeToUsb). The hard drive is formatted and has one primary Dos partition which takes up the whole drive, I created this using the fDisk command. If I attempt to install Win XP from CD I get the error message …. Line xxx of file txtsetup.sif is invalid, so that obviously doesn’t work. If I boot from the flash drive, I get the …. file I386\Ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7. So, I then created a Dos bootup cd which allows me to access the harddrive. I then noticed that when the flash drive is plugged in, the netbook automatically assigns it with drive letter C: and demotes the hard drive to D:. I am wondering if this is causing the install to fail, possibly Win XP setup is attempting to make references to the hard drive and is assuming it is drive C: and the netbook is reporting back that it’s not!?! I have even manually copied in Dos all the setup files from the flash drive to the hard drive (which took about 2 hours – completely forgetting about xcopy!!) in an attempt to run setup from the hard drive (by first booting from Dos cd to gain access to it). I was simply presented with a ‘This program cannot be run in Ms-Dos mode’ – at this point I nearly smashed the thing up!! I really don’t know what else to try, have been battling with this for three very long days now. Update (22/09/09) I have now tried the bartpe method, mojopak – still no joy!
Hi and thanks for the response, I did all the installation, icluding slipstreaming SP3 and copying boot files etc onto USB but when inserted into the netbook it simpy doesn’t recognise it as a bootable disk. I have a disk which allows me to boot to Dos and from there I can access the Bartpe files but anything I click on simply tells me that it can’t be run in MsDos mode…..

Hi, I have a Samsung Q1 and I’ve built a USB stick with BartPE and the installation files for XP Tablet PC edition. Everything goes fine, and when I invoke Winnt32.exe it does its thing, and exits. Thereafter, I reboot the Q1 and it starts text mode XP install – goes through the standard thing – asks me which partition etc, and then proceeds to copy files – what should happen next is that it should start the GUI mode installation part of XP – instead it keeps starting the text mode version and does the same thing as before – asks me which partition and copies the same files again – any ideas how I can get past this?

Thanks a million.
